Tips for growing your giant pumpkin Germinate and grow the seed on in the pot provided on a sunny windowsill. When the roots show at the bottom of the pot, plant out to a prepared area. To prepare the plot, dig in a good quantity of well rotted manure. The plot should be in a sunny position and well watered before the young plant is planted. Water well, throughout the growing period. When fruits begin to set, only allow one or two to grow on. Pick off non healthy fruits and in the later stages chose just one fruit to grow on to maturity.
